HOLLAback! Boston's HOLLAween 2013

Hollaback! Boston is the local branch of an international movement to end street harassment, started in 2005 in New York City by Emily May.  Hollaback! is now in 64 cities and 22 countries worldwide, where they are spreading a grassroots movement that includes sharing stories, running workshops, creating safe spaces, gathering data, and educating the public on issues of street harassment and ways to combat it.  They share a message of safety and empowerment, free from victim-blaming, classism, homophobia, or racism.

The Hollaback! Boston staff decided to take back Halloween this year by throwing a party that reflects the organizations values.  The party was, "a safe space free from slut shaming, victim blaming, and cultural appropriation."   The fabulous DJ Univers-AL was spinning, playing only music that is in line with this vision and is great for dancing.  The event was located at Make Shift Boston, a great "co-working space for socially-minded, creative professionals."  They are looking for new members, so click through to the link if you're interested.
